Bloodhounds combine to take Brookhart-Crew relays

Boys take six-team title, while girls finish 4th

FAIRFIELD – Fort Madison High School took 2nd combined at the Brookhart-Crew 2024 Relays in Fairfield Monday night. The boys won the six-team event with 148 points. The girls took fourth with 79.
The boys featured a slightly jumbled lineup that saw Dayton Lamar take 1st in the 100-meter dash with an 11.50 and Kenden Bowie continue his surprising season in the high jump clearing 6’4” to take the title at the meet.
For the girls, Mara Smith keeps peeling time off her 800 with 2:25.27, good enough for first place. She needs a 2:23.44 to break the top 50 in the state.
The 4x800 team of Avery Rump, Smith, McKayla Schinstock, and Addison Rump also captured first with a 10:00.32, a full 36.8 seconds ahead of the field, and moves that foursome into the top 29 times in the state.
Brylie Lorence took 1st in the shotput with a 39’7” heave.
The boys captured ten first-place finishes highlighted by the 4x100 relay team of Adam Sobczak, Dayton Lamar, Hayden Segoviano, and Julian Dear who marked at 43.69, the 46th best time in the state.
The boys' sprint medley and distance medley teams also captured first place.
The shuttle hurdle relay team may be the fastest team in the area with a 1:00.93 which is the 26th best time in the state. Cory Arnett spun the discus 141’11”. Brayton Schneider was second with a 133’4”.
Fort Madison will host the Southeast Conference meet Thursday at Richmond Field. State qualifying is May 9th at Mt. Pleasant.
