Lady Hounds improving despite 0-13 start

Tanner, Emmett almost get Fort Madison's first win of the year

BURLINGTON – The Fort Madison girls' tennis team suffered a shutout at the hands of the Burlington Grayhounds Tuesday in Fort Madison.
The Lady Hounds’ Head Coach Chuck Banks said the girls continue to show improvement as the season progresses despite starting the year 0-13.
At Nos. 1-3 singles the Bloodhounds’ Lila Shepard, Athena Snook, and Elizabeth Tanner all fell 0-6, 0-6.
Senior Lily Arnold battled to a 4-6, 3-6 loss at No. 4 singles, while Alixandra Kern fell 3-6, 0-6 and Madelyn Emmett lost 3-6, 0-6 to highlight singles action.
Banks said Tanner hadn’t picked up a tennis racket until about three months ago and is improving daily.
Emmett almost plucked the Hounds' first win of the year in doubles action at No. 2. The two battled to a 6-8 loss. Shepard and Arnold fell at No. 1 doubles 0-8, while the Hounds fell 2-8 at No. 3 doubles.
The girls travel to Keokuk Thursday night for another Southeast Conferene battle.
