Suspect in Wednesday chase had Texas warrants

20-year-old also listed as missing out of New York

LEE COUNTY - The suspect arrested in connection with Wednesday's high speed chase and manhunt in Lee County has been identified as a 20-year-old wanted on warrants out of Texas.
Lee County deputies used facial recognition software to identify the suspect as Kaylin Lashun Dorsey out of Texas.  Kaylin Dorsey has multiple warrants out of Texas and is also listed as a missing person out of New York.  He was listed as armed and dangerous.
The matter continues to be under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol with additional charges to follow.     
Lee County Sheriff Stacy Weber released a statement on Thursday outlining additional details of the incident.
On 12/20/2023 the Iowa State Patrol initiated a traffic stop with a white 2022 Lexus.  The vehicle would flee the traffic stop and a pursuit would take place across Highway 2 and County Road X23.  The subject would abandon the vehicle around Hillcrest Rd. and 227th St. just off Highway 2 and flee into the wooded area.  The subject at the time was known to be a black male wearing a light gray top with dreadlocks.
Members from the Iowa State Patrol, Lee County Sheriff’s Department, Fort Madison Police Department, Lee County Conservation, and the Keokuk Police Department were among the agencies that established a perimeter shortly before 11 am and deployed personnel on foot as well as K-9’s and aerial drones.
Authorities were alerted by residents within the search perimeter that they had observed a subject matching the suspect description moving through a field and creek area.  As law enforcement approached the area around 2:30 pm, the subject made an unsuccessful attempt to run from officers and was taken into custody.
The subject located indicated that he was a minor and provided a name and identifying information that could not be confirmed.  The subject was processed under the name of John Doe at the time of his arrest.  John Doe was charged with felony eluding.
