FORT MADISON – The Fort Madison Bloodhounds dropped a dual meet with Muscatine in high school boys tennis action Monday night.
Fort Madison won two singles matches and a doubles match to get three wins in the 6-3 loss.
At No. 1 singles Ryan Kirkpatrick shut out Fort Madison’s Aiden Benda 6-0, 6-0 and Troy Ulses knocked off Javean Davis 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2. Kirkpatrick is the 27th-ranked player in the state in singles play.
Jack Zorich downed James Janic in a tiebreaker at No. 3 singles. Zorich won the first set 6-3, but Janic fought back to take the second set 8-6 before losing the tiebreaker 10-3.
Peyton Howard and Rowan Benda accounted for the Hounds' three wins Tuesday night. Howard won his singles match over the Muskies' Noah Schoepf 6-4, 6-2 while Benda was knocking off Dylann Randell 4-6, 6-4 (10-3) at No. 4 singles.
The two would team up in doubles action to knock off Zorich and Schoepf 6-4, 2-6 (10-3) at No. 2 doubles.
Isaac Mason lost at No. 6 singles 7-5, 6-3.
Aiden Benda and Davis fell to Kirkpatrick and Ulses 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, while Janic and Mason dropped No. 3 doubles to Randel and Max Brendal 6-2, 6-1.
The Hounds are playing in the Southeast Conference tournament Wednesday at Burlington’s Dankwardt Park.
