FORT MADISON - If junior varsity action is indicative of things to come, Holy Trinity Catholic and Fort Madison High School are setting the stage for some battles.

In Thursday night's action, the HTC freshman boys squad eeked out a 51-50 win over the Bloodhounds. The Crusaders had trailed for all but one minute of the game going into the fourth quarter. However, the boys in blue found their groove in the fourth quarter outscoring FM 25-6 to steal the win. Brant Holtkamp led the Crusaders with 14 points, followed by Reed Fehseke and Matt Hellige with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Quentin Schneider added 7 points, Caleb Denning had 3, and Adam Rauenbueler and Jake Crabtree scored 2 each.

Jayden Fedler led the Hounds with 14 points followed by Parker Denning with 11 points, Isaiah Richardson and Roger Mauck each had 7 for FM. Romeo Maestro and Jake Burgher had 4 and Cameron Decker had a two.

In the junior varsity game, again the Hounds weren't able to fend off a furious last minute run from the Crusaders and HTC came away with a 53-52 one-point win. Hellige poured in 24 in that contest, followed by Rauenbueler with 13 and Holtkamp with 12. Schneider had a bucket and Crabtree added a free throw to round out the HTC scoring.

For Fort Madison, Parker Denning dropped in 12, followed by Alex Gully with 10, Shance Redd-Donald with 9, AJ Nolting with 8, Brandon Keester with 6, Dominic Frantz with 4, Fedler with 2 and Maestro with 1. The Hounds held a one-point lead going into the fourth quarter and expanded that lead to 6 with 5 minutes left in the game before the Crusaders came storming back.
