FORT MADISON - Fort Madison Head Coach Charlie Knipe knew his game Friday night was going to be a handful with the 6-3 Fairfield and he was right.

The Lady Hounds fell 62-26 to visiting Fairfield, a team that is averaging just over 50 points per game but has scored more than 60 five times this season.

Fort Madison was outmatched out of the gate when the Lady Hounds could only muster four points in the first quarter compared to the Lady Trojans 21.

Fort Madison was able to match Fairfield in the second quarter at 9 points apiece, but only managed 13 points in the second half to Fairfield's 32.

The Hounds were paced by Amber Dilsaver and Brittiney Harris with 9 points each and no Lady Hounds in double figures.

Knipe said it was a poor shooting night and the Lady Hounds didn't get to the free throw line enough.

"We only shot 11 of 36 from the field. That was pretty sad and we only went to the free throw line 8 times. We're a post-oriented team so that's really unfortunate,

"But we did see some good in the game. Kamryn Bailey had 7 boards and Amber had 8 so we did pretty well there, but I don't think we out-rebounded them."

Knipe said the defensive effort of the Lady Hounds was good and Fairfield's top shooter Sami Fritz, who was averaging just under 17 points per game was held to 10. The Lady Trojans Amber Buch, who was scoring at 13-point clip per game erupted for 21 on the night.

"They're a good shooting team. We didn't expect them to be able to shoot that well...but they did," Knipe said.

Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Hounds was Mariah Trimble with 5 and Emily Mitchell with 3.

Fort Madison falls to 3-5 on the season and does a quick turnaround with Holy Trinity Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Hound Dome.
