Steffensmeier wins 100th at Ed Winger Classic

FORT MADISON - FMHS junior Harlan Steffensmeier notched his second 3rd place finish at tournaments with top ranked wrestlers, and notched the 100th win of his career as well.

"It was an incredible tournament," Head Coach Ryan Smith said. "There were lots of No. 1 and No. 2 state ranked opponents in the finals."

Steffensmeier (32-3) got caught in a cradle by Collin Lewis of North School at the 2:49 mark to send him to the consolation round for 3rd place. The FMHS junior had beaten Lewis by decision at the Lancer Duals in North School two weeks ago.

Steffensmeier pinned Trevor Stanley of Glenwood 1:18 into the match to get his first win of the day. Then in the quarterfinals he scored a major decision over Zach Fisher of Indianola 11-0 for his 100th win in his high school career. In the consolation round he scored a technical fall over Zach Oldham of West Des Moines 16-0. He then scored a major decision over Skyler Noftsger of Ballard 12-1 to get the third-place medal. Noftsger was 31-3 going into the match and rated 6th in the state in Class 2A.

Aaron Steffensmeier (132) took 7th place at the event winning four of five matches. He lost in the first round to Will Jefferson of Bettendorf 10-0 to put him in the consolation bracket where he went on to pin his next two opponents, Todd Robinson of W. Des Moines and Luke Stuart of Urbandale. He then took a decision from Ames' Humberto Alvarado, 5-1 setting up the 7th place match with Cade Moss. Steffensmeier pinned Moss at 2:48.

Ryan Steffensmeier (113) lost in the 7th place match to Jackson Lukehart of West Des Moines Valley. He won his first match of the day over Keaton Speicher of Iowa City West with a 12-4 decision. Then was pinned by Kobey Pritchard of Indianola at the 4:50 mark, which sent him into the 7th place bracket. There he met Cade Pahl of Des Moines Roosevelt and pinned him at the 2:49 mark to set up the match with Lukehart.

Nathan Steffensmeier lost his first two matches of the day by pin at 12o lbs. in 1:25 and 3:05.

At 126, Skylar Schau lost his first match of the day in a 10-1 decision to Ethan Wagner of Centerville. Schau then got two byes in a row to set up a match with Voyan Adamson of Bettendorf who scored a technical fall at 16-0 to end Schau's day.

At 182 lbs. Diego Lozano (13-14) was pinned in his first two matches of the day, the first at the hands of Ben Lee of Ballard and the second by Tristan Richardson of North School.

Danen Settles, wrestling at 195 lbs. for the Hounds, lost in the first round by pin to Isaac Bales in :52. But Settles battled back and won two decisions in the consolation bracket over Jacob Martin of Waukee 12-6 and Kaden Sutton of Adel-DeSoto-Minburn, 5-0. Settles was on his way to the 7th place match but was stopped quickly by Reece Bowlin of Indianola by pin at :42.

On Tuesday the Hounds travel to Kirksville, Missouri for a 6 p.m. match.
