Kathaline M. “Kathy” Medland, 69, of Ft. Madison, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 8:04 p.m. at the Ft. Madison Community Hospital surrounded by her family.
She was born on January 1, 1948 in Ft. Madison to Alfred C. “Butch” and Mary Ellen Ford Mueller. On April 21, 1970 she married Terry E. King and they later divorced. She then married John Medland on September 25, 1992 in Ft. Madison. Kathy was the owner and operator of Ft. Madison Spirits Liquor store. Kathy was also the manager of Midwest Surplus which specialized in bags, Sheaffer Golf Course Restaurant and Casey’s on the west end. She was of the catholic faith. Kathy enjoyed scrapbooking, cooking and family get togethers. She especially enjoyed spending time with her daughter and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, John Medland of Ft. Madison; a daughter, Christine (William “Bill”) King-Bowker of Ft. Madison; a son, Terry (Shelly) King of Elko, NV; a step daughter, Michelle (Nick) Kruse of Ft. Madison; grandchildren, Dakota King, Grant Niggemeyer and Kinnedy Niggemeyer; step grandchildren, Myah, Erika and Kinnick Kruse; four brothers, Don (Mitzi) Mueller of West Burlington, Darrel (Dana) Mueller of Ft. Madison, Frank (Pearl) Mueller of Augusta and Mike Mueller of Burlington; a sister, Betty Ann (John) Boughton of Burlington. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Barbara and a brother, Dave.
The family will meet with friends from 4-6 PM on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. There will be a wake service at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 27, 2017 at Ss. Mary & Joseph Church with Rev. Mark P. Spring officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
