FORT MADISON - The Lee County Emergency Management Agency will be participating in Severe Weather Awareness Week with drills today from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. However, due to weather that is supposed to include rain, thunder and some lightning this morning, the Fort Madison weather sirens will not be activated as part of the drills.

LCEMA Coordinator Steve Cirinna said this morning, the agency didn't want to confuse residents if the weather were to turn stormy during the drills.

"We won't be using the sirens as part of the drill today due to the weather,' Cirinna said. "We will still be activating weather radios and the reverse 911 system as part of the weather preparedness drills. We just didn't want to cause any confusion to the residents."
