On Tuesday, March 21, the Fort Madison Police received a call of a stolen pickup truck, and a passenger vehicle was reported stolen to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. Believing there was a connection between the two reports, the Fort Madison Police Department and Lee County Sheriff’s Office conducted a joint investigation into the stolen vehicles.

The pickup truck was recovered in Fort Madison near the 2200 block of Avenue L. The car was recovered just outside Fort Madison near the PAW animal shelter on Ortho Road and had been wrecked. A witness reported seeing a number of juveniles running away from the car that was wrecked.

As a result of the investigation, one female juvenile has been detained along with three male juveniles. Five counts of operating without owner’s consent, numerous traffic citations, including two counts of failure to have a valid driver’s license, three counts of allowing an authorized person to operate a motor vehicle, failure to maintain control, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and additional charges may be pending.

Two of juveniles have been held at the Southeast Iowa Juvenile Detention facility.
