MT. PLEASANT - Taylor Shannan scored three goals, including one in OT, to lift the Fort Madison Bloodhounds to a 4-3 win over Mt. Pleasant in girls high school soccer action Monday.
The Hounds had a 3-0 lead going into the second half, but Mt. Pleasant came storming back with two goals in the first 10 minutes of the final period.
Shannan scored twice in the first half and Dezire Kline found the back of the net for the second time this season in the first half to lead Fort Madison. Shannan scored the game winner less than three minutes into the overtime period.
Fort Madison Head Coach Sebastian Siefert said he was short on experience on the road.
"We played without three starters and had to scramble a bit to make adjustments, but the team came together and really stepped up. It was really important to us to be able to go to Washington on Friday with a 2-2 record rather than 1-3," Siefert said.
He said goalie Josie Pumphrey tended the net and had a solid game.
"She probably had her best game of the season so far. A handful of great saves and smart plays saved us from conceding more goals to the Panthers," he said. "Our back three played their part as well. Kaycee McGregor has returned from an injury that had her missing a couple of games and Chayse Lowney played her first varsity game of the season. Both did an excellent job on defense. Amber Dilsaver filled in for McKenna Fehseke as Center Back."
Shannan had six shots on goal and voted player of the game by the team. Kline had three shots on goal and one assist. Emily Wolf had two shots on goal and one assist, while Sally Johnstun took one shot and helped with one assist.
The Hounds take on Washington on the road Friday with a varsity matchup starting at 4:30 p.m.
