Kevin Lee Houston, 61 years, of Des Moines and formerly of Denmark, Iowa died Sunday, April 16, 2017 at his home. He was born March 23, 1956 in Fort Madison, Iowa, a son of Harold and Elizabeth “Betty” Eckmeier Houston.

He was a graduate of Fort Madison High School and Worsham College of Mortuary Science.

He was a licensed funeral director and embalmer, but embalming was his real passion. He worked for 28 years for the McLaren���s Resthaven Chapel, West Des Moines; Stevens Memorial Chapel, Ames; and Ankeny Funeral Home, Ankeny, retiring in 2010. Kevin attended the Denmark Congregational United Church of Christ, Denmark and most recently the Lutheran Church of Hope, West Des Moines.

He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth “Betty” Houston, of Denmark and his brother, Michael Houston, of Chicago, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his father and his sister, Teresa Ann Houston.

Graveside services and burial will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the Denmark Cemetery, Denmark, with Pastor Chad Savage officiating. A memorial has been established, contributions may be left at the Barr Memorial Chapel.
