FORT MADISON - The Bloodhound girls tennis team fell Tuesday night at the hands of Fairfield and 2016 state runner-up Anatta Charoenkul.

Charoenkul, playing No. 1 singles against Fort Madison's Katie Larson, got out to a quick start and ran to an 0-8 win. It was Charoenkul's second win over Larson in the past two weeks and Fort Madison plays at Fairfield next Tuesday, which could result in another matchup.

"Katie played returning state runner-up Anatta, who really pushes Katie to play better every time they meet, which happened again tonight," said head coach Amy Doherty.

Kearstyn Johnson won at No. 2 singles with a win over Dayna Price 9-8 on a 7-3 tiebreaker in the first to nine games.

The Lady Hounds took the next two singles matches at 3 and 4 when Hope Gray fought back from an 0-3 deficit on court 3 to down Cami Schaefer 8-6 and sophomore Larissa Ferrill downed Hermela Gebremariam 8-4. But Mercedee Doty and Charissa Smith both fell at Nos. 5 and 6 singles. Doty lost to Anna Beasley 7-9, while Smith fell 4-8 to Ashley Pool.

In doubles action, the Lady Trojans swept the Bloodhounds. Larson and Gray fell to Charoenkul and Gebremariam 3-6. Johnson and Gray fell 6-8 to Price and Schaefer. Doty and Smith also pushed their doubles match to eight games but fell 6-9 to Beasley and Pool.

"Kearstyn won a big one at number two. She played very well tonight. Hope fought back from an 0-3 deficit to win. Number two doubles, though they lost, was a very well-played game. They were down 2-7 and came back to win the next four to bring it much closer," Doherty said.

"Once again, the overall meet score does not reflect how close and hard fought many of these matches were. I look forward to playing Fairfield again next Tuesday."

In junior varsity doubles action, Lilli Scott and Alyse Schmidt lost 2-6. Zoe Ramatowski and CJ Lozano also fell 2-6. Aniah Ross and Jamie Folks fell 2-6. But Lily Cadwallader and Deanna Warner got a win for the junior varsity 6-2. Cadwallader and Taylor-Ann McGee fell 0-6 in their doubles match.
