BURLINGTON - The Fort Madison Bloodhounds boys tennis team continues to make easy work of local dual meets.
The Hounds knocked off host Burlington 7-2 on Friday night in a makeup event that was rained out earlier this month.
As has been the case this year, FMHS is getting out to a quick start winning in the high-seed matches.
Sam Avery made easy work of Brett Levins at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win. Johhny Hernandez then blanked Kyle Miller at No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win.
Junior Austin Krueger, who has probably one of the strongest serves on the squad, dropped Zach Hull at No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-3.
The Grayhounds got on the board at No. 4 when Blake Feuerhammer fell in a tiebreak to the Grayhounds' Cody Newman.
"That match could have gone either way. It was a very well played, hard fought match," said FMHS Head Coach Dean Hogan.
Feuerhammer won the first set 7-5, but lost the second 4-6 and then fell behind a serve in the tiebreak and lost 10-7 to lose the match.
The Hounds won at Nos. 5 and 6 when Tim Shin defeated Alex Nelson 6-0, 6-1 and Gage Hind downed Jackson Villont 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles action, the Hounds' Avery and Kreuger defeated Levins and Miller 6-2, 6-2. Hernandez and Feuerhammer had a tougher time with their match dropping the first set 4-6, but then coming back for a 6-4 win to send the match to a first-to-10-by two tiebreaker, which the Hounds won 10-8.
The Grayhounds won the No. 3 doubles match when Nelson and Villont downed Shin and Hind in another tie breaker with Fort Madison winning the first set 6-1, but then dropping the second set 4-6 and the tiebreaker 4-10.
The Hounds will test the 4-1 dual record Tuesday when they host Fairfield at FMHS.
