FORT MADISON - More information about moving the Lee County Health Department to the county offices has come to light this morning, but just a little.

Lee County Attorney Ross Braden said that an air quality issue prompted the staff to move Thursday morning.

"I can tell you at this point the nature of the concern had to do with air quality within the building," he said.

When asked how the issue was discovered, Braden said he wasn't, at this point, able to comment on that.

"I can't comment on that, primarily because nothing has been confirmed at this point," he said. "Our primary focus is the health and well being of the employees. As a precautionary measure we wanted to get our employees out of there."

It is still unknown as to how long the employees will be out of the building because Ross said testing is being done today and possibly tomorrow on the air quality in the building. He also said he was unsure how long it will take to get the test results back.

Braden said the issue was brought to him for legal and preventative advice for the health and safety of the employees.

The air quality issue is revealed just nine days prior to a ballot referendum on May 2 where county residents will vote on whether to bond $2.6 million for a new building on the west end of property owned by the county where the Lee County Sheriff's office and Lee County jail sits.

"It's incredibly coincidental timing," Braden said.
