IFC announces more milestones, testing

WEVER - With production starting at the Iowa Fertilizer plant in southeast Iowa, the facility will reach additional milestones over the next week as new start up activities are initiated.

As the plant begins the process of producing urea ammonium nitrate, venting from sections of the plant will have an orange color for one or two days. This is an expected and planned part of the company’s start-up process. The emissions are not harmful and the company continues to work closely with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to meet all permit requirements.

Additionally, Iowa Fertilizer Company plans to test its primary alarm systems on Wednesdays at 10:00 am moving forward. The facility also uses internal alerts to help monitor production. While those may sometimes be audible in the community, the company is working to reduce the frequency and volume of these alerts.
