MEDIAPOLIS - The Fort Madison Lady Hounds got back on the winning track Tuesday night with a win at Mediapolis.
The Hounds scored a goal in each half. Dezier Kline scored in the first half on a corner kick by Kaeli Hutson. Emily Wolf scored in the second half for Fort Madison.
Josie Pumphrey held the Bulldogs scoreless and Head Coach Sebastian Seifert said she "had some great saves" and was voted Player of the Game by her teammates.
Siefert said it took some time for the girls to find their game and had no shots on goal for the first 20 minutes and then didn't have very many other shots.
"The team came out of halftime a little better at their passing game and had better communication but there are obvious areas for improvement. Mediapolis played well and it was a hard battle today," Seifert said. "They are a very physically strong team and it took some time for our girls to adjust to that."
Seifert said Allison Brune and Kalifa McCaleb played most of the game as defensive mids and did a good job getting the ball away.
"Towards the end with 10 minutes left in the game and the score being 1:0 I told the team to essentially build a wall. We changed our back three to a back four and played five midfielders in front of that leaving Emily all by herself without any forwards in front of her. Only a few minutes later we are on a counter-attack and she ends up scoring the second goal which helped us all breath a little easier. Mediapolis had been non-stop attacking up until that point," he said.
The Hounds now stand at 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
