Laurence “Larry” Wade Cantwell, 90 years, of West Burlington, Iowa and formerly of Wever, Iowa died at 3:10 pm Thursday, May 4, 2017 at the Great River Hospice House, West Burlington. Larry was born December 5, 1926 in Bucklin, Missouri, a son of James “Wade” and Beryl Dean (Kathan) Cantwell. On July 3, 1950, he married Josephine “Jo” Tyler at Rolla, Missouri. She preceded him in death.

Larry was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II. In 1950, he received his Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri, Rolla. He worked as a Division Engineer for the Santa Fe Railroad from 1950 to 1982. He was a member of the Danville United Methodist Church, and was active with the bible study group at Rosebush Gardens. He enjoyed bird watching, golf, traveling, dancing, and Big Band music. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter, Kris (Tom) Tibbets, of New London, Iowa; two grandchildren, Brett Tibbets and Kelsey (Michael) Healy; and a niece and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son James, and brother Rodney.

Per his wishes, his body has been cremated. His family will greet friends from 1:00 - 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at the Barr Memorial Chapel. A Memorial Service will follow and be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, with Pastor Kendall Adams officiating. Full military rites will be conducted by the Fort Madison Veterans Honor Guard at the funeral home following the services. Burial will be at a later date at Bucklin, Missouri. A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice, contributions may be made at the Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison.
