Quilt guild on display at FMAAA

FORT MADISON - “Variegated Threads” seamlessly integrates over 50 works of fiber art from Ti-State Modern Quilt Guild. A reception for the talented group occurs May 13th from 2-4pm.

The techniques utilized in the quilted pieces vary from piecework, to applique and fabric manipulation. The quilt styles range from traditional to modern and include some art quilts.

The reception kicks off the Main Street Quilt Walk, which occurs May 13th-21st in downtown Ave G businesses. All this action right across from Faeth's Main Street BBQ on that day as well! Just down the block The Artisans Next Door offers a stamp carving and block printing workshop. Then from 4:30-6:30pm “Colorful Souls: Stained Glass Care” at Dawgs & Divas. Make it Ft. Madison in May!

The Tri-State Modern Quilt Guild has been in existence for 25 years with 25 members living in Kahoka, Warsaw, Hamilton, Montrose, Ft. Madison, Keokuk, and Salem. They meet once a month in Keokuk at the public library at 6:30pm on the 3rd Tuesday of the month.

The guild is affiliated with the national group, the Modern Quilt Guild, and actively works on variety of projects for charities. They run a Biennial Quilt show and have had 3 exhibitions this year. Types of patterns on display include the following: Disappearing 9 Patch, Double Wedding Ring, Sidelights, Lonestar, Colorado Log Cabin, French Braid, and Attic Window. Members will present at the Lunch-ala-Art program on May 26th from 12-2pm.

FMAAA and Ft. Madison Main Street have a plethora of programs packed in between the reception and the luncheon. On May 18th syndicated columnist Curt Swarm of Empty Nest will have a book signing at 7 p.m. at the gallery to celebrate his first novel Protected. On May 20th Gin Lammert offers a pastel workshop from 12:30-4:30pm. Call 372-3996 to register. Another huge day on the 20th to wind down the Quilt Walk with The Artisans Next Door workshop on earthenware or wall pocket planters from 11am-2pm and Barley Hops in Riverview Park from 5-8pm.
