Lee County K-9 group gets $3,000 from Central Lee students, Hy-Vee

LEE COUNTY - The Lee County K-9 Association received more than $3,000 from local students and businesses toward the funding of a K-9 unit for the Lee County Sheriff's Department.

Sixth graders from Central Lee Junior High School were the top fundraising class at the school and were treated to the ice cream sundaes served with Sheriff Stacy Weber and members of the Lee County Sheriff's Dept. as well as the K-9 Association. Students at the school raised more than $1,300 to go toward funding "Alex" who is now in Arkansas going through some situational training. That training will last about four weeks and the German Shepherd will be put through additional training in northern Iowa with his handler from the sheriff's department prior to becoming a part of the team.

The Association then stopped by Fort Madison's Hy-Vee to visit with Director Kim Jaber who presented the group with a check for $1,800 that was generated through several fundraisers at that location. Both Keokuk and Fort Madison Hy-Vee food stores have given assistance to the group.
