FORT MADISON - The FMHS girls tennis team struggled in two-set play on Saturday at the Iowa girls regional team competition in Fort Madison.

No. 4 singles conference champion Larissa Ferrill got the only win in singles competition for the Lady Hounds when she knocked off West Burlington/Notre Dame's McKenzie Fry 6-2, 6-1.

Because FM lost five singles matches they didn't get into doubles competition. Fort Madison's top three singles players all lost by identical 3-6, 2-6 scores.

Katie Larson lost to WB/ND's Lydia Becker 3-6, 2-6 at No. 1 singles, Kearstyn Johnson fell by the same score to Claire Hackenmiller at No. 2, and Hope Gray lost 3-6, 2-6 to Delaney Williams before Ferrill got her win.

Mercedee Doty lost 2-6, 1-6 to WB/ND's Kennedy Rheinschmidt and Charissa Smith fell to Riley Brueck 2-6, 2-6 to end the day for Fort Madison.

In later rounds, Mount Pleasant knocked off Keokuk 5-3 and then WB/ND shut out Mt. Pleasant 5-0.
