Hounds drop two to West Burlington

WEST BURLINGTON - The Fort Madison Bloodhounds dropped a double header to open the season 8-6, 7-5 in high school boys baseball action Wednesday in West Burlington.
In game one, Jordyn Gerdes went 4 1/3 innings in the loss, giving up six runs on five hits, while walking four and striking out five. Dayne Cordray came in in relief and went 2 1/3 giving up two runs on a hit, three walks, and three Ks.
Gerdes led the Hounds at the plate with a double and home run for three RBIs and a couple runs scored. Cordray had three hits and an RBI. Lennon Barker, Tyler O'Tool, and Jace Burgher each had a single and run scored. O'Tool added an RBI.
West Burlington scored two in the second, two in the third, two in the fifth, and two in the bottom of the seventh on a walk-off home run to win the game.
FM scored one in the third, and then tied the game with three runs in the fourth and put up two more in the fifth.
In the night cap, Brandon Reichelt started and gave up two runs on four innings of work allowing just two hits on four Ks and four walks. Logan Allen relieved and surrendered three runs on four hits and two walks. Lennon Barker suffered the loss in just one inning of work, giving up two runs on a hit and three passes in the 7-5 loss.
Elijah Barnes hit a three run homer in the first and then was walked three times. O'Tool and Aaron Steffensmeier had singles and Logan Allen, Bill Young, and Steffensmeier had two walks each. Cordray, Young, O'Tool, and Jace Burgher each scored runs in the loss.
The Hounds are 0-2 on the young season and host Washington on Friday.
