KEOKUK – The FMHS Lady Hounds are now in a six-game funk as they dropped two games Monday to Keokuk in high school softball action.

Keokuk put up four runs in the bottom of the first inning in the first game enroute to an 8-3 win over the Hounds. Fort Madison jumped out to a quick 2-run lead in the top of the first, but pitcher Lexi Schmidt couldn’t figure out the Lady Chiefs in the first, giving up four runs, but then shut them down for the next three innings. The Hounds put up another run in the top of the second, but that’s all they would get across the plate in the first game.

Keokuk scored three more runs in the fifth inning and one more in the six to put the game out of reach.

Sadie Smithburg led the Bloodhounds at the plate going 2-for-2 with a double and a stolen base. Kamryn Bailey went 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Olivia Williams went 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored.

Schmidt took the loss, going all six innings, giving up eight runs, four earned on nine hits, no walks, and a strikeout.

Keokuk jumped all over the Hounds 10-4 in game two putting up nine runs in the first two innings. FMHS whittled away at the lead but ran out of time scoring two runs in the second and one in the fourth and fifth.

Chase Lowney took the loss for the Hounds giving up 10 runs, eight earned on 11 hits, six walks, and two strikeouts.

Jada Lamm led the girls at the plate going 3 for 3 with a double, a stolen base, and a run scored. Vanessa Golowach went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, a run scored, and two RBIs. Bailey and Williams each had two hits in the loss.

The Hounds’ Wednesday tilt with Davenport North was postponed until Thursday, June 22 after two lightning delays. They travel to Washington on Thursday for a doubleheader before hosting Mt. Pleasant in a doubleheader Monday.
