DENMARK - Two teenage girls are in stable condition today after they were both seriously injured late Friday night in a single ATV accident in northern Lee County.

The accident occurred in a heavily wooded area off Old Quarry Road northeast of Denmark and northwest of Wever.

The two girls, who have not been identified as of Saturday morning, were both airlifted to two different hospitals and are in stable condition this morning, according to Lee County Sheriff Stacy Weber. One of the girls suffered head injuries and the other is hospitalized with back injuries.

LeeComm notified Lee County Sheriff's deputies and Denmark Fire and Rescue of the accident just a few minutes before midnight Friday.

Initially an AirEvac helicopter was dispatched to the scene and then a second helicopter was requested. Due to the location, the helicopters had trouble finding a safe landing place and the victims had to be transported by ambulance to the closest landing area.
