DeVota “Dodie” A. Burgess, 87 years, formerly of Fort Madison, Iowa, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Highland Ridge Care Center in Williamsburg, Iowa.

Dodie was born August 30, 1929 to Melvin and Clara Burch in Herring, South Dakota. She was united in marriage to John L. Burgess on December 3, 1949 in Bloomfield, Iowa. She was a very loving wife and mother, and devoted her whole life to her family.

Survivors include three daughters, Brenda Carlson of Burlington, Jane (Scott) Hettinger of Chelsea, Iowa, and Lisa (Craig) Ireland of Iowa City, Iowa; step son, Ronald (Susie) Burgess of Tehachapi, California; grandchildren, DeDe (Lance) DaVolt, Minde (Terry Grant) Bostock, Carrie (Jeff) Krieger, Harvey and Hannah Ireland, Libby (Matt) Adams, Elliott (Korina Garcia) Maury; step-grandsons, Bryce and Tristan Hettinger; great-grandchildren, Kendalyn (Clyde), Julian (Careena), Tavian, Bethany (Zach), Kaetlyn (Chris), Gaven, Analyssa, Kyaira, Jaydren, Olivia and Dylan; step great-grandchildren, Mallory and Kylie; great great grandchildren, Titan, Chaos, Kenya, Kaydince, Khaila, BryAnne and Johnathan; and step great great grandchild, Brooklinn.

Dodie is preceded in death by her husband, John Burgess who passed away July 11, 2014, parents, brother, Donald Burch, and great granddaughter, Brianne.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 pm Tuesday July 11, 2017 at Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, Iowa with visitation 1 hour prior to services. Pastor Dean Graber will officiate. Burial follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery.
