Bailey, Schmidt named to 1st team all conference

FORT MADISON - The Lady Bloodhounds landed two players on the Southeast Conference 1st team all conference squad released earlier today.

Senior Lexi Schmidt and junior Kamryn Bailey both made the top squad. No Bloodhounds made the 2nd team, but senior Chayse Lowney and sophomore Olivia Williams both were named Honorable Mention.

The Hounds landed six players on the Academic All-Conference including Schmidt, Bailey, Lowney, senior Emily Mitchell, and juniors Teryn Parsons and Sadie Smithburg.

Senior Bailey Johnson of Mt. Pleasant was named Player of the Year.

Bailey hit right at 400 for the year and was third in the conference in home runs with six. She had 46 hits in 115 at bats including 10 doubles and two triples hitting predominantly in the clean up spot for Stan Schmidt's squad. She had 37 RBIs which was tied for 6th in the league and was third in the league in slugging percentage at .678.

Schmidt went 7-12 on the mound with an opponent batting average of .276, 9th best in the conference, over the year on 116 innings pitched. The senior, who will be playing for Jeff Lamb next year at Clarke College, struck out 72 hitters, 5th best in the loop, against 28 walks. She carried a 5.25 earned run average. Schmidt was also in the top 20 offensively in the conference hitting .346 with 37 hits, nine doubles, one triple, and one home run.

Lowney hit .378 on the year from her lead-off spot with four home runs and 16 RBIs. She had 14 doubles, which ties her for 3rd in the loop, and added a triple.

She also was 3-13 on the year rotating with Schmidt on the mound. She fanned 60 against 44 walks and gave up an opposing batting average of .352.

Williams hit .345 on the year with nine doubles and a home run. She was also a perfect 10 of 10 in stolen bases good, enough for a top 10 spot in the conference.
