Jess Lee Pumphrey, 99, of Denmark, IA, passed away at 9:50 p.m. on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at the West Point Care Center. He was born on November 16, 1917 at Eubank, KY, the son of Everett & Bertha Osborne Pumphrey. He married Karleen W. Denning on November 9, 1939 in Davenport, IA. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps attached to the 442nd Troop Carrier Squadron in the E.T.O. He lived most of his life in the Denmark area and was associated with the Yetter Oil Company for several years in the oil business. He also enjoyed working on his farm. He was one of the original fireman on the Denmark Fire Department. He enjoyed camping, traveling and flying his air plane. He was of the Christian Faith.

He is survived by: his wife: Karleen Pumphrey of Denmark, IA; 1-daughter: Kay (Martin) Rogers of Spring, TX; 3-grandchildren: Paige (Trent) Yackimec, Lacey (Jared) Capps & Brent (Diane) Pumphrey; 5-great grandchildren: Michael & Caden Yackimec, J.D. Pumphrey, Brianne Johnson & Kayla Christenson; 4-great great grandchildren: Ava & Wesley Johnson, Benjamin & Everett Christenson and 1-sister: Faye (Gene) Fraise. He was preceded in death by: his parents, 1-son: Jerry Pumphrey, 2-sisters: Ethel Junkins & Vola Weisinger.
A private family burial will be held at Fairview Cemetery with military rites performed by the Fort Madison Veterans Honor Guard.
