FORT MADISON - The annual Fort Madison Area Artists Association Kid's Art Camp began Tuesday this week.

About 30 students attend the camp from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

FMAAA Director Brian Riggs said the kids students usually have two session during the camp and snack time in the middle. On Wednesday the campers worked on 2D and 3D watercolor slices and some wax resistant water colors where water colors and crayons were used for art.

After a break where Warsaw guitarist Jesse Mazzaccoli entertained the group with a bit of a 'name-that-tune' on his acoustic guitar, Mary Scott from Artisans Next Door showed the campers how to do an alcohol abstract on photo paper.

The students used drops of rubbing alcohol mixed with drops of paint and then blew through a straw to move the paint. The photo paper allowed for quick drawing and then the students could use markers to add detail the painting after they had dried.

Riggs said students from all three local elementary schools were invited to the camp before the school year ended.
