FORT MADISON - With just a month away before opening its doors at the corner of 18th and Avenue L, officials at Fareway Grocery have released the names of the managers and are planning for the grand opening Aug. 30.

Fareway Regional Supervisor Rick Beckwith said construction crews are still in charge at the site, but plans are quickly coming together.

"We're very excited," Beckwith said Wednesday. "We've found Fort Madison to be a fun community to come into and very welcoming. There's a very positive vibe there and that's exactly the kind of community we love to be in."

He said the grand opening will be at 10 a.m. August 30th with a 9:30 ribbon-cutting ceremony, but the festivities will be set in motion by the local management team.

Corporate Outreach and Communications Director, Emily Toribio released the names of the management team at the store.

"Our grocery manager will be Mark Braun from the Davenport store and our Market manager will be Mike Hanna from the Iowa City location," she said.

"Every store does things a little bit different but we try to make those openings a fun and festive atmosphere."

Beckwith said according to current schedules the management team should be in the store in the next 10 days or so and then they should be able to take a good look at the retail operation.

"Beyond that we're just in the development stages. A lot of (grand opening plans) fall into place a few weeks before we open. We'll have a better idea at that point. But we're very excited to take possession and get it opened. We will probably have certain vendors that will have special offers and some sampling going on, but we're going to be a very busy place for those hours on opening day," he said.
