Judith “Judy” Sue Mahoney, 63, of rural Fort Madison, passed away at 1:00 A.M. Sunday July 30, 2017 at her home.
Born November 7, 1953 in Fort Madison, Iowa, the daughter of Kenneth Roy and Dona (Dockum) Hagmeier. On August 15, 1993 in Fort Madison, Iowa, she married Michael “Mike” Sanford.
Survivors include her husband, Mike; two sons, Matthew (Cheritie) Mahoney of Granger, Iowa and Kevin (Bailie Siemens) Mahoney of Fort Madison, Iowa; five grandchildren, Ethan, Madeline, Gavyn, Kellen, and Cameron; one brother, Mark (Phyl Hinds) Richers of Denmark, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and brothers and sisters-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her father; mother; step-father, Johny Richers; and three siblings, Janet Thompson Deeders, Sandra Nelson, and Kenneth Hagmeier.
Judy was a graduate of Fort Madison High School. She worked for Lee County Bank, and she later worked for ResCare.
Judy’s family always came first, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed all of her pets, fishing, gardening, mushroom hunting, helping people, and spending time with her family and friends.
Per her wishes, her body has been entrusted to Schmitz Funeral Home for cremation.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 5, 2017 at her home 2194 West Point Road, West Point, Iowa 52656.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lee County Hospice.
