Bernard George Watznauer, 80, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away at 7:10 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, IA. He was born on September 7, 1936 in Fort Madison, IA to William & Genevieve Kramer Watznauer. He married Betty Lou Weidmann on October 11, 1959 in West Point, IA. He worked for the Chevron Chemical Company in the Ortho Division for 35 years as a maintenance electrician and later retired from Monsanto. He served in the U.S. Army in the Panama Canal Zone as a cryptographer. He was a member of Holy Family Parish and enjoyed walking, gardening, fixing things for people, crossword puzzles and making his family laugh.

Bragg, NC, Brooke Johnson of Adel, IA, Morgan (Marcus) Broggom of Scranton, IA, Andrew Johnson of Waukee, IA, Joseph, Matthew & Marcus Watznauer all of Granger, IA & Jayde Watznauer of Fort Madison, IA; 1-great grandson: Rhett Boyle of Tipton, IA; 4-sisters: Laverne Boeding of West Point, IA, Lucille Fedler of West Point, IA, Rita Miller of Burlington, IA & Vera (Richard) Boeding of West Point, IA; 2-brothers: Floyd (Delores) Watznauer of Fort Madison, IA & Raymond (Marylin) Watznauer of West Point, IA. He was preceded in death by: his parents, his step mother: Garnet Bailey Watznauer, 1-son: Wade, 4-sisters, Martha Boeddeker, Evelyn Schneider, Pauline Blint and Eileen Dingman & 2-brothers, Wilbert and Clarence Watznauer.
Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 25, 2017 with a rosary to be recited at 4:00 p.m., the family to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and a wake service to be held at 7:00 p.m. all on Friday evening at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory in Fort Madison. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Joseph Phung officiating. Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Holy Trinity Catholic Schools or Holy Family Parish.
