FMHS runners take 2nd at Fairfield Invite

FAIRFIELD - Sierra Howardson took second place at the Fairfield Invitational to lead the FMHS girls to a second place finish as well.

Howardson finished behind Mt. Pleasant's Abby Ryon who ran the 5K race in 18:59.52. Howardson's 19:21.36 was about :36 in front of FMHS's Brett Schneider who came in fifth place overall.

Fort Madison's Elizabeth Miller took 3rd on the team with a 21:39.50 good enough for 12th overall at the meet. Maddy McVey finished in 20th place overall with 22:08.81 mark and Ashlyn Haas finished 26th overall with a time of 22:56.56 and Lauren King broke the tape at 24:12.93.

Paige Munson ran the course in 25:04.71 to round out the Fort Madison girls runners. Fort Madison had 62 points to front-runner Ottumwa's 42 points. Mt. Pleasant took 3rd at the meet with 71 points.

In the boys meet, Aaron Steffensmeier finished in fourth place to lead the Hounds to a second place finish at the meet. Steffensmeier motored to a 17:01.99 mark followed by Dayne Cordray, whose 17:11.81 mark was good enough for fifth right behind Steffensmeier.

Miguel Trejo took 16th overall at the meet with an 18:20.20 time just ahead of the Bloodhounds' Noah Sissel and Nathan Steffensmeier who finished in 18th and 19th, respectively, with 18:25.34 and 18:26.31 times.

Owen Kruse and Elton Kruse finished 22nd and 23rd overall with Owen finishing at 18:29 and Elton at 18:33.

The Hounds finished with 62 points, behind Mt. Pleasant with 47. Fairfield took 3rd place at the meet with 80 points.

In junior varsity action, Claire Hellman and Anna Kester took 3rd and 4th in the girls meet with 23:50.52 and a 23:52.40 marks. Miho Shirai took sixth place at the meet with a 24:17.14 and Brittney Sanford finished 11th with a 25:19.05 time.

Matt Meierotto finished third in the boys junior varsity meet with a 19:21.41 time. Anthony Barnes took 12th at 20:26.70. Alex Steffensmeier finished in 29th place overall with a 21:45.67 and Seth Mendez finished at 22:04.75.

In the Middle school run, Katelyn Dennis captured her second 1st place finish on the year with a 13:57 time in the 1.5 mile junior high meet. Isabella Boeding was 15th overall with a 15:07 mark and Tauren Settles took 16th place just three seconds behind at 15:10.

Emily Steffensmeier finished in a time of 15:55, Mylah Blanchard, McKenna Cashman, and Breeann Walston finished 44th, 45th, and 46th overall at the meet. Lauren Otte took 49th place and Ellie Schulte finished in 51st place. Jordyn Boyer finished in 64th place.

In the boys junior high meet, Hayden Wolfe finished in 5th place overall for Fort Madison with a 12:17 time. Austin Miller and Dayton Davis both finished in the top 10 at 12:28 and 12:37 for ninth and tenth place.

Will Gager, Miles Dear, and Emmett Kruse were 12-14th with times of 12:47, 12:49, and 13:04.

Reiburn Turnbull finished at 14:52, Dimari Meredith finished at 15:02, Matt Steffensmeier at 15:08, Tate Settles at 15:22, and Cameron Shutwell rounded out the Fort Madison finishers at 17:46.
