HTC girls stroll to win over Cardinal

FORT MADISON - The 2nd-ranked Holy Trinity Catholic volleyball team strolled to a 25-7, 25-4, 25-11 win over Cardinal of Eldon in Tuesday night volleyball action.

The Crusaders held their No. 2 spot in Class A behind Janesville who's 9-1 and lost on Sept. 2 to Class 5A No. 3 ranked Cedar Rapids Jefferson

Emily Box led the Crusaders on offense with 25 of 27 attacking and 21 kills. Maya Rashid settled into her regular role as set up girl with 30 assists on the night including a dozen in the final game. Madison Mohrfeld was 8 of 8 attacking with seven kills.

Sam Hoenig basically camped at the service line all night going 32 of 32 with eight aces to lead HTC in that category. Hoenig is a perfect 79 of 79 service on the year with 11 aces over for games. Eryn Anderson was 15 of 15 serving with four aces. Box was 10 of 10 with an ace and Elyse Pothitakis was 7 of 7 serving with an ace and seven digs on the night,.

Rashid was 5 of 6 serving with four digs and two blocks for Holy Trinity. She is leading Class 1A with 11.83 assists per set, ahead of Sadie Bobst of Tripoli at 10.63. On the year, Box has 133 attacks on 12 errors and 90 kills to lead HTC.

The Crusaders take their 4-0 record on the road to Central Lee on Thursday night beginning at 5:30 p.m. with freshmen, then junior varsity followed by the varsity match.
