Mexican Fiesta kicks off Thursday night

FORT MADISON - Beginning Thursday night the area of 34th and O will be ramped up with the tradition that is the Fort Madison Mexican Fiesta.

The event, steeped in the rich history of Latin American and Mexico, brings thousands of people into the area over the weekend for traditional Mexican food and vendors, coupled with the beer garden, a carnival by D&B Shows, and three days of tradition including folk dancing and the crowning of the 2017 Mexican Queen and Princess.

The events start Thursday night at 4:30 with the beer garden and a street dance that kicks off at 8 p.m.

The Grand Entrance starts at 6 p.m. Friday followed by a History of the Mexican Fiesta and then the Queen and Princess Crowning. Then a traditional folk dance will take place until just before 9 p.m. when the street dance kicks off again with music by Los Soni 2. The street dance will run until 1 a.m.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday drink specials and prizes will be awarded to those in attendance. The Saturday Grand Entrance begins at 6 p.m. followed by the wrap up street dance from 8 p.m. to midnight.
