FORT MADISON - An announcement regarding Great River Health Systems interest in property located on the city's west end is expected before the end of the month.

Great River Health Systems announced last week the purchase and construction plans of a $5.75 million facility on Keokuk's north end, roughly 15 minutes from where they were looking at building in Fort Madison.

A GRHS public relations and communication officer said this morning that information on the proposed site would be released on Sept. 26 but wouldn't elaborate on whether or not the Fort Madison project had been put on hold.

Pen City Current reported late last month that GRHS was looking at purchasing a lot at the corner of Ortho Road and Hwy. 61 just across the road from Fort Madison Community Hospital.

In that story, Jim Kammerer, GHRS vice president of support services, indicated that aside from the acquisition of medical services at Hometown Medical in West Point and the possible Fort Madison location, GRHS at that time wasn't looking at any other properties in Lee County.

The company currently owns and operates the Keokuk Clinic and the new facility will replace the current clinic.

Fort Madison officials recently approved subdivision waivers on the property and the sale at last report was still pending.
