Howardson, Schneider lead FMHS lady runners

MOUNT PLEASANT - Fresh off her home turn win last week at the Fort Madison Invitational, FMHS Senior Sierra Howardson captured 2nd place in the girls 5K run Tuesday night at Mt. Pleasant.

Howardson finished at 20:02.8, 16.8 seconds off the pace set by Mount Pleasant's Abby Ryon's 19:46.0. Brett Schneider took fourth place behind Ashley Bloomquist of Fairfield with a time of 20:19.3.

Claire Mendez and Ashlynn Haas finished in 24th and 25th place with just a half-second apart with Mendez crossing the line at 23:57.9 and Hass at 23:58.3.

Anna Kester rounded out the top five runners for the Lady Hounds coming in 33rd with a time of 25:07.4. Those top five were enough for second place with 50 points behind Mt. Pleasant's 32. Maddy McVey finished 58th (27:57.8).

In the junior varsity 5K run, FMHS's Lauren King took first 10 seconds ahead of the pack with a time of 24:31.00. Miho Shirai finished in 3rd place at 24:44. Claire Hellman was the third FMHS runner in the top five overall with a 25:00.00 time in the 5K run. Paige Munson finished 7th at 25:54.00 and Brittney Sanford was 8th overall at 25:54 to round out the top five scorers for Fort Madison.

The Lady Hounds took first place in the large class group with 24 points to Washington's 41. Other finishers included Lexi Miller, 11th, 27:15 and Rachel Hellman 12th 27:38.

The Hounds got another top finisher in the middle school 3200-meter run. Katie Dennis took the meet at 13:29.5. Tauren Settles was 14th with a time of 14:56.1, Emily Steffensmeier was 16th overall at 15:10.04. Mylah Blanchard was 23rd with a time of 15:39.0, while Ellie Schulte crossed the line at 37th place with a mark of 16:43.7.

Other top local runners included Mary Hellige (HTC) 53rd place overall at 18:09.6, Jordyn Boyer (FMHS) 59th - 18:31.9, Elliot Dostalek (HTC) 75th-20:05.0, and Brooke Mueller (HTC) 21:54.5,
