Keokuk PD arrests man on felony, misdemeanor charges

KEOKUK –

The Keokuk Police Department reports the arrest of Jacob Michael Vawter, age 23, of Keokuk, for Theft First Degree (Possession of Stolen Property), a class C Felony and, Leaving the Scene of a Traffic Accident, a Simple Misdemeanor. On September 19th at approximately 10:08 a.m., officers with the Keokuk Police Department were dispatched to the 300 block of

VAWTER

Main for an individual who was asleep in a vehicle that was reported stolen out of Hancock County. Officers located the vehicle and; after a short pursuit, the driver, Jacob Michael Vawter, was taken into custody.

On an unrelated matter, Vawter was charged with Burglary Second Degree, a Class C Felony and, Unauthorized Use of a Credit Card, an Aggravated Misdemeanor. This arrest stems from an investigation into a residential burglary that occurred in April of 2017. Both of these incidents remain under investigation.

The Keokuk Police Department was assisted by the Hamilton Police Department, Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and, the Lee County Attorney’s Office.

If convicted on all charges, Vawter faces up to 23 years in a State Correctional Facility.

The defendant is considered innocent until proven guilty.
