Task force makes drug arrest in Fort Madison

FORT MADISON – The Lee County Narcotics Task Force reports the arrest of a Quincy, Illinois man on felony and misdemeanor drug charges.

WEGAT

Joshua S Wegat, 28, Quincy, Illinois was arrested on October 3rd, 2017 at 2500 block of Chalk Ridge Road, Fort Madison, Iowa on felony and misdemeanor drug charges. Wegat is charged with Possession of Methamphetamine more than Five Grams with the Intent to Deliver, a class B felony, Drug Tax Stamp Violation, a class D felony, Possession of Methamphetamine, a serious misdemeanor, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor. If convicted, Wegat faces up to 31 years and 30 days in a state correctional facility.

The arrest of Wegat stems from a traffic stop conducted by a Lee County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit Deputy. During the course of the traffic stop, the K9 Unit alerted on the vehicle that Wegat was a passenger in. During the subsequent investigation, items that support the charges were discovered.

The Lee County Attorney’s Office and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Lee County Narcotics Task Force in this investigation.

The defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
