FMHS boys take 2nd at Centerville

CENTERVILLE - The Fort Madison boys cross country team took second place at Tuesday's Centerville Invite.

Aaron Steffensmeier won the individual 5k race breaking the 17-minute mark at 16:59 just one second ahead of Oskaloosa's Carter Huyer. Oskaloosa won the meet with just 27 points having all five of their scoring runners in the top 9.

The Bloodhounds' Dayne Cordray finished in fourth place at the meet with a 17:41 mark. Other scoring runners for the Hounds included Nathan Steffensmeier 12th - 18:30, Shakir McClellan 19th -18:57; and Elton Kruse 20th - 19:01. Other Hounds competing at the event included Miguel Trejo 22nd - 19:10; Owen Kruse 23rd - 19:11; Noah Sissel - 19:21; Matt Meierotto - 20:11; Anthony Barnes - 20:24; Alex Steffensmeier - 20:33; and Seth Mendez 22:56.

Sissel won the junior varsity run with his mark of 19:21, Meierotto and Barnes took 4th and 5th in with their times, Alex Steffensmeier and Mendez rounded out the scoring runners for the Hounds.

The Fort Madison boys middle school runners took first place at the meet.

Austin Miller 5th - 9:29; Hayden Wolf 10th - 9:32; Miles Dear, 14th - 9:35; Emmett Kruse 15 - 9:36; Dayton Davis 17 - 9:42; Will Gager 20 - 9:57; Ben Thele 44 - 10:55; Reiburn Turnbull 11:41; Tate Settles 11:43; Matt Steffensmeier 11:56, Gideon Anderson 12:21, Cameron Shutwell 12:51.

Fort Madison took 3rd place in the girls middle school 1.5 mile run.

Katelyn Dennis 2nd - 10:03, Emily Steffensmeier 15th - 11:22, Mylah Blanchard, 17th - 11:30; Ellie Schulte, 22nd - 11:46, Lauren Otte 28th, 11:57, Breanna Walston 42nd - 12:29, McKenna Cashman, 44th -12:31; Jordyn Boyer -12:57.
