FMHS spikers go undefeated in Southeast Conference

FORT MADISON - The Fort Madison Lady Bloodhounds wrapped up 2017 Southeast Conference volleyball with a 25-8, 25-12, 25-8 win over Washington Friday night.

The Hounds finished the season 8-0, without losing a set (24-0) in the conference which gives them a repeat as conference champions. FMHS hasn't lost a conference match since 2015 when the Lady Hounds dropped two to Fairfield. Tuesday was also senior night for the Bloodhounds with six seniors being honored prior to the game. Head Coach Kent Bailey put them all on the floor to start the first game.

Senior Leigh Johnson led the Hounds with 26 assists and was 12 of 12 serving with an ace. Junior Kaeli Hutson paced the Hounds at the net going 12 of 15 attacking with six kills. She also had four digs. The Hounds got balanced performances in the front and back court in the win. Senior Courtney Woodley was 11 of 11 hitting with five kills. She also was perfect serving going 10 of 10 with an ace. Senior Shyla Farmer was 12 of 14 hitting with four kills and a block. Senior Amber Dilsaver was 7 of 10 hitting with three kills and served 10 of 11 with four aces.

Senior Kamryn Bailey had 11 digs and was 13 of 13 serving with four aces and had two kills. Senior McKenna Fehseke was 12 of 14 hitting with five kills. Sophomore Jillian Wiseman was 11 of 12 hitting with five kills and she had four blocks to lead FMHS on defense.

"It was A good effort by our kids tonight," Head Coach Kent Bailey said. "The seniors set the tone the first game by going out and playing well as a group. That group has worked hard the last eight years and we gave them a chance to start and play through a game together."

"Jillian Wiseman gave us a good lift in the second game going out and recording four kills and three blocks. We were able to rotate our bench in the third game and see everyone contribute. Our kids' hard work in the offseason during the club season and summer workouts has contributed to where we are at. You also see the efforts of the previous coaches Jill Stull, and Mike and Anita Helling in where are program has come to this point."

The Bloodhounds are 23-5 overall, including a 17-1 record dating back to Sept. 5, and are ranked 14th in the state in Class 4A according to the Iowa High School Girls Athletic Union.

The Hounds swept four wins in the Durant Tournament on Saturday, downing Grinnell 21-10, 21-6, Davenport West 10-21, 21-18, 15-13, Durant 21-8, 21-15, and Maquoketa 21-13, 21-2.

On the day, Johnson again led the Hounds going a perfect 23 of 23 hitting with three kills, and led the Hounds with 63 assists on the day. She also served 30 of 31 with four aces. Hutson hit 29-34, with 12 kills and served 17-17, 29 digs. Farmer hit 10-16, eight kills and Woodley hit 10-16, six kills. Dilsaver paced the Hounds at the net going 35-43 with 20 kills, 11 blocks, and then served 14-18 with three aces. Wiseman hit 18-21 with 12 kills and six blocks and Fehseke hit 21-24 with 10 kills, four blocks for the day.

Josie Pumphrey served 41-44 with nine aces and 45 digs. Bailey served 25-26, six aces and had 29 digs, while Olivia Williams served 31-31, three aces and 16 digs.
