HTC boys take 4th at SEISC run

WINFIELD - Matt Hellige took third place at Thursday's Southeast Iowa Superconference cross-country meet at Winfield on Thursday.

Hellige's finish helped carry the Crusaders to a 4th-place finish overall at the meet. He finished at 17:04.26 just 2.5 seconds shy of Winfield-Mt.Union's Brody Barton and 11 seconds off the pace set by Colten Glosser of Pekin who ran a sub 17, 16:52.49 in the 5K run.

Blake Crabtree was the next Crusader across the line at 18:32.48 good enough for 26th place overall. Jacob Mohrfeld took 36th place with a time of 18:58.70. Seniors Ben Abolt and Adam Rauenbuehler finished at 43rd and 44th respectively with times of 19:18.74 and 19:19.45 to round out the scoring for HTC.

Other place finishers for the Crusaders were Brant Holtkamp at 19:31 - 48th and Sam Avery 20:19.65 - 62nd.

Pekin won the meet with 63 points, followed by Wapello with 81 points and Winfield-Mt. Union with 116. HTC finished with 149 points.

In the junior varsity meet, Chandler Rung paced Holy Trinity with a 12th place finish at 21:17.75. Josh Barr finished in 26th place with a time of 23:16.25 and Wyatt Hellman was 27th at 23:18.25. Kyle Scheetz took 29th place with a time of 23:29.38.

In the junior high two mile boys run, the Crusaders took 3rd overall with 76 points highlighted by Philip Goldie's 1st place overall run at 10:40.89. Mikey DiPrima was sixth overall with a time of 11:28.79. Michael Hellman finished in 18th place with a time of 12:10.54, Tyler Snaadt took 23rd at the meet with a time of 12:20.10, and Jacob Pothitakis was 36th at 12:58.10 to round out the scoring for HTC. Nick Fullenkamp finished in 38th with a time of 13:04.08.

In the girls two-mile run, Elliot Dostalek, took 32nd place with a time of 15:02.38 and Mary Hellige finished in 46th place at 16:14.75.

On Monday, HTC finished second at the Mike Jay Cross Country Invitational in Columbus Junction.

Matt Hellige again took third with a 17:53.20 on the 5K run. Again just two seconds behind Barton. Wilton's Buddy Darting won the race at 17:07.9, a full 45 seconds ahead of the field. But the Crusaders got strong runs from Crabtree at 19:32.8 - 16th, Mohrfeld at 19:40.5 - 18th, Ben Abolt with a time of 19:53.5 - 21st and Brant Holtkamp 20:40.0 good enough for 29th place to finish the scoring runners for HTC. Other finishers included Sam Avery 30th - 20:40.3.

In the junior varsity boys run, Chandler Rung took 4th place with a time of 21:42.7. Wyatt Hellman and Josh Barr finished 19th and 20th with times of 24:03.8 and 24:11.6. Kyle Scheetz was 28th with a time of 26:09.2.

In the junior high run, Holy Trinity only fielded four runners in the two-mile event so they couldn't place as a team, which required five runners, but Goldie and DiPrima finished one and two at the meet at 10:29.3 and 11:14.80. Michael Hellman took 7th at 12:10.8 and Nick Fullenkamp took 15th at 13:07.2.

In the junior high girls run, Dostalek took 12th place with a time of 15:29.7 and Mary Hellige took 15th with a time of 16:41.6.
