FORT MADISON – The Fort Madison Area Chamber of Commerce has awarded Silgan Containers Manufacturing Corporation the 2017 Manufacturing Business of the Year Award. Silgan was awarded the honor during the Corporate Games event at Baxter’s Sports Complex on Friday, October 6th. The award was received by Plant Manager Bruce Hardy.

The Manufacturing Business of the Year Award is awarded to businesses that show operational excellence and advancement in improvement initiatives, development and innovation within their company. The industry committee looks for businesses with environmental initiatives in place, ones that operate in safe environments, and also commit to ethical behavior. Award winners show involvement with the community in ways such as local improvement, community outreach, and encourage volunteerism.

Beginning in 1975, Silgan Containers has been one of the Fort Madison area’s most stable manufacturers. Silgan has not experience a layoff in over 25 years, allowing their 125 employees to experience stable lifestyles with their future in mind. Silgan continually operates under OSHA standards and maintains a safe work environment for their employees. Community involvement is important to this company and it shows with their employees being registered volunteers in the Iowa Adopt-A-Highway clean-up program and their efforts to work with the local Food Pantry. Silgan is a proud sponsor of the Tri-State Rodeo, the PORT projects, as well as other community events.
