Holy Trinity, FMHS battle at Mediapolis Invite

MEDIAPOLIS - The 7th-ranked Holy Trinity Crusaders got revenge on the Fort Madison Bloodhounds Thursday night at the Mediapolis Invite with a 26-24, 25-23 win.

The Hounds downed HTC at the Holy Trinity Classic on Sep. 18 in a three-set match and won the classic.

"The Holy Trinity match was a great match for the fans in which both teams hammered the ball back and forth," FMHS head coach Kent Bailey said. "Give them credit, they made plays at the end to pull it out."

Thursday night, the Crusaders swept Eddyville-Blakesburg 25-18, 25-17, then downed FMHS before taking a 25-17, 26-24 win over Mediapolis.

For the Crusaders, Emily Box was 76-82 hitting with 44 kills to lead HTC offensively. She also had 29 digs and four blocks on the night. Eryn Anderson was 33 of 40 hitting with 18 kills and had four blocks.

Maya Rashid had 68 assists on the night including 27 against the cross-town Hounds. The senior was also 18 of 18 serving with an ace and 25 digs for the tournament. Madison Mohrfeld was 20 of 22 hitting with five kills. Sam Hoenig was 14 of 15 serving with an ace.

Taylor Boeding went 24-of-28 at the net with eight kills and was 31 of 32 serving with four aces. Elyse Pothitakis was 22 of 23 serving with 22 digs.

The Lady Hounds downed Mediapolis 31-29, 25-17 before falling to HTC and then losing to Eddyville-Blakesburg in three sets 24-26, 25-14, 10-15 in the tiebreaker.

Leigh Johnson served 10-14 with 15 digs and led the Lady Hounds with 74 assists. Amber Dilsaver served 29-31 with three aces, three blocks, and hit 40 of 51 with 23 kills. Olivia Williams was 30 of 30 serving with two aces and 15 digs. McKenna Fehseke hit 25 of 27 with 10 kills and Courtney Woodley hit 28 of 35 with 13 kills. Sophomore Jillian Wiseman was 39-45 hitting with 29 kills and had five blocks to lead the Hounds in both those categories.

"It was a good tournament for us to see what we need to work on and tune up as we head into regionals," said Bailey. "Each match was tight and came down to who made the error when the game was on the line."

Kamryn Bailey was 34 of 35 at the service line with six aces and 33 digs for Fort Madison. Kaeli Hutson was 11 of 13 serving with 15 digs and 15 kills, and Josie Pumphrey was 23 of 25 serviing with 40 digs.

The Hounds fall to 24-7 on the year and HTC moves to 33-5 on the year including an 11-match win streak.
