MARTING
Born July 1, 1948 in Springfield, Illinois, he was the son of Harold and Ruth (Boehney) Marting. On June 14, 1975, he married Vicki Dadant at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hamilton, Illinois.
Survivors include his wife, Vicki; two daughters, Ashley (Henry) Wilson of Quincy, Illinois and Sarah Marting of Quincy, Illinois; one granddaughter, Victoria Wilson; one grandson, Michael Stanley Wilson; and one brother, Gary Marting of Raleigh, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Mark Marting.
Wayne was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Keokuk, Iowa. He was also a member of the Nauvoo Lions Club and Delta Sigma Phi. Wayne was a graduate of Eastern Illinois University where he had pitched baseball. He taught history and coached sports at Milford High School in Westville, Illinois. He then moved to Nauvoo where he started Marting Insurance and Real Estate which he and Vicki owned and operated for over 40 years. Wayne coached Sarah all the way through her sports career. He was instrumental in starting the Nauvoo girls softball league and coached the Nauvoo little league. He loved animals and donated to many animal rescue groups. He loved his work and the people he served in Nauvoo and the surrounding areas. Wayne was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed horse racing and working in his yard. Wayne especially adored his grandchildren and loved every minute he spent with them.
Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 17, 2017 in Friendship Hall at the Nauvoo United Methodist Church. There will be no family visitation.
A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at the Nauvoo City Cemetery with Pastor Les Dumer officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the PAW Fort Madison Animal Shelter in Wayne’s name. Memorials may be left at the church on Tuesday or mailed to the family at: Schmitz Funeral Home, P.O. Box 22, West Point, Iowa 52656.
