Task force arrests man on felony drug warrant

KEOKUK – The Lee County Narcotics Task Force reports the arrest of a Keokuk, Iowa man on a felony drug warrant.

BURGESS

Nicholas Wayne Burgess, 33, of 120 North 9th Street, Keokuk, Iowa was arrested on October 30th, 2017 in the 800 block of Concert Street in Keokuk on a felony drug warrant. Burgess is charged with delivery of a scheduled II controlled substance (Morphine) within 1000 feet of a school second or subsequent offense, a class C felony with enhancements. If convicted, Burgess faces up to 45 years in a state correctional facility.

The arrest of Burgess stems from an investigation by the Lee County Narcotics Task Force into allegations that he was involved in the distribution of illegal narcotics in the Lee County area. On October 30 2017, an officer with the Keokuk Police Department noticed Burgess riding a bicycle in the area of 13th and Blondeau. After a short pursuit, Burgess was arrested on the outstanding warrant.

The Lee County Attorney’s Office, Keokuk Police Department and the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement assisted the Lee County Narcotics Task Force in this investigation.

The defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
