Darlene Hellweg, 91 years, of West Point, Iowa died at 5:58 am Thursday, November 2, 2017 at the Donnellson Health Center, Donnellson, Iowa. She was born August 20, 1926 in rural Henry County, Iowa, a daughter of Conrad and Elizabeth (Rotter) Kruse. On June 26, 1948 at West Point she married Cletus Hellweg. He preceded her in death.

She was a lifelong resident of the area. She was a homemaker who also worked at several jobs including, Sylvania in Burlington, Sheaffer Pen in Fort Madison, and at the West Point Care Center. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary, Daughters of Isabella and St. Mary’s of the Assumption, West Point. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, camping and playing cards.

She is survived by one son, John (wife Elena) Hellweg, of Fort Washington, Maryland; two sisters, Florence Menke, of St. Paul, Iowa; and Glorine Hellweg, of Fairfield, Iowa; three grandchildren: Jessica, Jason, and Jenny; three great grandchildren: Rylie, Kirsten, and Clarabelle; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, Betty Kramer; four brothers: Ernie Kruse, Richard Kruse, Adrian Kruse, and Cletus Kruse; and three sisters, Marie Meierotto, Kathryn Meierotto, and Bertha Fedler.

Visitation will be from 5:30 - 6:30 pm Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at the Barr-Holtkamp Funeral Home, West Point, where a Christian Wake service will begin at 6:30 pm Tuesday evening. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church, West Point with Reverend Dennis Hoffman as Celebrant. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, West Point. A memorial has been established for St. Mary’s Church or the West Point Fire and Rescue, contributions may be made at the Barr-Holtkamp Funeral Home or at the church on the day of the service.
