Ivan L. Swearingen, Sr., 93, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at The Kensington. He was born on June 25, 1924 in Rutledge, MO to Silas & Hester Robinson Swearingen. He married Grace Higby, they later divorced. He then married Marion Kudebeh on March 23, 1967 in Hamilton, IL. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad, retiring after 44 years of service. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII, serving in Guam, the Marianna Islands, Iwo Jima and the Volcano Islands. He enjoyed fishing and playing cards in his free time.

Ivan is survived by: his wife: Marion Swearingen of Fort Madison, IA; 3-sons: Ivan (Ronda) Swearingen, Jr. of Fort Madison, IA, Ronald (Betty) Kinkeade of Danville, IA & Clinton (Arla) Derr of Florida; several grandchildren; great grandchildren and 1-sister in law: Lydia Swearingen of Galesburg, IL. He was preceded in death by: his parents, 1-grandson, Ryan Swearingen, 2-sisters & 1-brother.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. just prior to the funeral, which will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Dean Graber officiating. Burial will be held at Soldiers’ Circle in Oakland Cemetery with military rites performed by the Fort Madison Veterans Honor Guard.
