PORT Committee gives thanks for successful event – Letter to the Editor

Posted

The fourth annual Spooktacular Boo-athlon sponsored by PORT (Promoting Outdoor Recreational Trails) of Fort Madison was another hauntingly successful event! The PORT Committee would like to thank all those who participated, supported and volunteered their time to the success of the event. We had a great showing of children and adults, many in costume, who ran or walked, rode their bikes or did both in our du-athlon competing for bragging rights and top prizes. We were especially excited to be able to use both Phase I and newly completed Phase II of our initial three Phase project for this year’s event. A big thank you goes out to our corporate sponsors: Matt’s Greenhouse; Steffensmeier Welding; Menke & Co.; Hy-Vee; The Kensington; Fort Madison Community Hospital; Axalta; DuPont; Connection Bank; Group Benefit Partners; Pilot Grove Savings Bank; Randolph Dental; Rashid Pharmacy; Two Rivers Insurance; Green Oak Development; Huffman Welding & Machinery/Huffman Farm & Home; Lee County Bank; Ideal Ready Mix Company, Inc; Midwest One Bank and Holmes Dentistry. We would also like to thank those businesses and individuals who donated their services, refreshments, prizes and supplies: Hy-Vee; Kalona Dairy; Kempker’s True Value; Bickel’s Cycling and Fitness and Baxter Sports Complex. A special thank you goes to the City of Fort Madison and the FMPD for all of their help and support before, during and after the event. PORT of Fort Madison continues to raise funds to complete Phase III of our recreational trails plan in Fort Madison. We invite you to join us for our inaugural PORT of Fort Madison Ugly Sweater Run for Fun on Sunday, December 10th. PORT of Fort Madison operates as a sub-committee of the Fort Madison Parks and Recreation Department and is dedicated to creating recreational trails in Fort Madison. The support of the community in this endeavor is greatly appreciated.
