MEDIAPOLIS - The Holy Trinity Crusaders boys basketball team had three players score in double figures as they rolled to the first win of the season 58-55 over Mediapolis on the road.

It was the third of five road games to open the season. And after two setbacks at the hands of Van Buren and WACO, HTC was able to stave off a wild 13-7 run in the final two minutes to hold on for the win.

The Crusaders led from the tip off and built leads by as much as nine points but the Bulldogs cut the lead to one point on four different occasions.

Holy Trinity held a 6-point 14-8 advantage at the end of the first quarter that included an 8-1 run with four minutes left in the quarter, but Mediapolis closed the gap to three at the end of the first half.

HTC got four three pointers in the first half and had the best shooting night of the year so far, converting 50% from the field for the game. Sophomore Reed Fehseke, who led the Crusaders with 15 points on the night, Adam Rauenbuehler, Jake Eaves, and Collin Thornton all had 3-pointers in the first half.

Mediapolis trailed by nine with four minutes left in the third period and, with just two minutes left in the game, trailed by seven before the scoring barrage took place in the last two minutes where both teams combined for over 20 points, highlighted by Mediapolis senior Will Schroeder who put in 14 in the second half to keep the Bulldogs in the game.

"The boys played a pretty good game," said head coach John Hellige. "We shot 50 percent form the field and got a total team effort. Everyone contributed and we did a great job of withstanding a huge Mediapolis run at the end."

Thorton finished with 14 points and sophomore Matt Hellige added 11 including 7-of-10 from the free throw line. Fehseke was 6-of-8 from the charity stripe including 5 of 6 in the second half. Quentin Schneider, Eaves, and Rauenbuehler each added six points for Holy Trinity. Schroeder led all scorers with 20 points and Ben Wolgemuth had 17 points for Mediapolis.

HTC travels to West Burlington on Tuesday night before hosting their first games of the season on Friday against Cardinal.
