Mediapolis' Johnson scores 33 in win over Crusaders

MEDIAPOLIS - Holy Trinity had three girls score in double figures, but fell to the hot shooting 3-0 Mediapolis Bullettes on Saturday night 76-54 to highlight girls high school basketball action.

Emily Box led the Crusaders with 20 points and 10 rebounds, Taylor Boeding and Brett Schneider each had 10 for HTC.

The Crusaders held a 15-11 first quarter lead, but were outscored 24-14 in the second quarter to give the Bullettes a 40-31 halftime score

Mediapolis was very crisp from the 3-point range in the first half converting six from long range including four from junior Maya Johnson and two from sophomore MacKenzie Springsteen. Johnson would throw in four more from the 3-point arc in the second half for 8-of-12 on the night on the way to 33 points to lead all scorers.

Holy Trinity couldn't keep up in the third quarter as Mediapolis pulled away 17-9 and held a 57-40 lead.

Mya Lawlor had five points for HTC, Sam Hoenig added three, and Avery Hopper, Madison Mohrfeld, and Eryn Anderson all had two points.

Holy Trinity travels to West Burlington Tuesday for a junior varsity girls, junior varsity boys, varsity girls and varsity boys set with games starting at 4:30 p.m.
